Welcome to the University of California Irvine Clean Energy Project 2006-present. This design project focuses on PEM fuel cells, Wind energy, and Batteries, with the objectives to provide undergraduate seniors at UC Irvine opportunaties to develop, manufacture, monitor, and maintainess Wind turbines, Fuel cells, and Batteries.

Clean Energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are continually replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat; and with minimum pollution and green-house gas emission. Wind turbines harvest useful energy from airflows. Batteries and PEM fuel cells are two potential candidates for energy storage and reuse.

Participant students will design, fabricate, and test these units, and their hybrid. A small-scale wind turbine will be installed in the Engineering Tower on UCI campus; and connected to batteries or PEM fuel cells. We recruit students quarterly.
